In early June Alison Guest the Community Safety Warden for Cantley and Bessacarr, invited the Doncaster Rovers Belles to attend the The Bessacarr Primary School Fun Day on 24th July.  As part of the “Belles for the Community” project, the girls wanted to continue on promoting healthy lifestyles and getting involved in sporting activities and what better way than to challenge youngsters to 5 a side football matches.

The Belles saw this as a perfect opportunity to raise the profile of the club and the players. With the sun blazing, youngsters were queuing up to take on Belles, Tori Williams, Emma Johnson and Kasia Lipka. The Belle’s weren’t the only girls getting involved either, a group of young budding female footballers decided to take on the boys too with their own 5 a side team. All the participants were handed souvenir programmes which the girls were happy to sign after they had finished playing.

With the day being such a success, the Doncaster Rovers Belles hope to attend around six of these events per year. The events are a good way to show South Yorkshire how skilful the girls actually are and that they are willing to engage with the community. Hopefully the junior players that participated at the fun day and their parents will come along to watch the first team play when the Super League starts in March 2011.
