04 Jul 2010 (Chris Wright)The National Futsal Championships were held at the English Institute of Sport (Sheffield) today (Sunday 4th July). Whilst the junior section don't play futsal normally and therefore wouldn't ordinarily have an interest in the championships, it's worth noting that one of the new players for this season's Under 14's team seems to be rather good at the FA's preferred version of the 5-a-side game. Several of you may have noticed new girl Hannah Sillince around the training ground and playing in tournaments for the current Under 13's - she's tall, she sometimes wears an Arsenal shirt but more noticeably has been sporting RED (not ginger or strawberry blonde) hair for weeks. Hannah was part of the Barnsley Academy futsal team (it's a school not a football Centre of excellence by the way), which took part in the championships today and ended up as losing finalists. Barnsley Academy lost the final 4-1 to Deans School (East Anglia) although i'm reliably informed that the scoreline didn't in any way reflect the closeness of the game. Congratulations to Hannah and her schoolmates - hopefully this augurs well for Hannah's fledgling career with the Belles.
